GAME RULES

 GAME RULES

The following set of rules have been established in order to clarify the most common types of in-game officiating situations. Any other relevant scenarios are based on the descretion of the referee officiating the game.

 PUNCTUALITY
If a team does not have at least 5 players present at the scheduled game time, the opposing team ( the team with enough players present) has one of the following options.

A) Take an automatic win by default and scrimmage for the remainder of the time.
B) Wait for the late team, but have time removed from the game clock.

GAME CLOCK
Every game consists of two twenty minute halves. Any additional overtime period is 2 minutes in length. The game clock is stopped during free throws, injuries or timeouts. If a game is close in the last 5 minutes, the clock is stopped on every dead ball.

POSSESSION
The Possession rule states that the team that loses the jump ball at the start of the game regains possession at the start of the second half. A jump ball takes place in every overtime quarter, with the possession arrow restarting itself per overtime.
TIMEOUTS
During the regular season, a team is given 2 timeouts per game. A team is given an additional timeout for each overtime period. In the playoffs a team is given 3 timeouts per game, as well as an additional timeout for each overtime period.

A team must have possession of the ball in order to call a timeout. The time out must be called by the player with possession of the basketball.
FOULS
A player is fouled out on his 5th foul and a team is in the bonus on their 6th foul. The team foul count is reset at halftime. During overtime the foul count from the 2nd half carries over to any existing overtime periods.
Flagrant and Technical fouls are given based upon the judgement of the referee. Please refer to the athlete code of conduct to distinguish what is not considered tolerable by the Roundball program.
SHOT CLOCK
If a game is within ten points, the last 5 minutes of the game will conclude with a shot clock being called out from the scorers table. If a team with possession is fouled with the shot clock under 15 seconds, the shot clock will be reset to 15 seconds.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Teams must report to the scorers table and notify the staff before subbing into the game. The scorers table is responsible for communicating with the referee when the best possible opportunity for a substitution can take place.

GAME ENDING SHOTS
In the chance of an end of game shot to win, the referee controls the decision if or if not the basket counted before the buzzer rang. The referee does hold the right to check in with the scorers table to review his decision before he makes the final game ending call.
