Article on The All City Chess Club

Kings In This Game of Pawns and Knights  The All City Chess Club have won 7 games straight... At the moment it doesnt look like any team can stop this Palmer highschool based Roundball team. This past Friday nights battle was another intense battle between the Wildcats and The All City Chess Club. The A.C.C.C's last win against the Wildcats was very controversial whereby what seemed to be a foul at the end of the game was not called and the All City Chess Club went on to win the game. Having said all that, this week's game was even more insaine. Roundball has seen alot of different problems over the course of our four years in running recreational sports....We have seen everything from men in Surrey directly cursing out our referees to players ripping their shirt off and storming off the court at the end of games...We have even had to suspend players for disorderly conduct to our staff....But this week was our first FIST FIGHT. Having said that, we dont promote violence in our leagues and are happy to say everything was controlled efficiently. Fortunitely our Referee Ron Calizon did not throw out any players nor give out any technicals. Probably because the city of Richmond has had the better Roundball track record compared to that of Surrey BC and most often Richmond has represented the Roundball program with the utmost respect. All in all, I believe it is fair to say that the All City Chess Club and the Wildcats hate each other. Nevertheless every game between the squads have been nothing less than spectacular and the next time they play we might just have to have security on hand. (Maybe Derek and Jerome or something)  The point is that the ACCC have been owning the men's season thus far. However statistically speaking over the course of the past 4 years NO number one seeded Roundball team at the end of regular season play has ever gone on to win the Roundball Championship. YES every number one seeded team has flopped and lost in either the semi final game or in the championship. And it may happen again, seeing as how close our games have been in recent weeks. However, All credit due to the ACCC for their dominance thus far... Someone stop them please.

Allstar Game Recap

The Cops Got Game…More Game Then Roundball

The 5th Annual Roundball Allstar game was a great success for both our organization, players and yes... the Vancouver Police Department. Unfortunately the Cops beat our Roundball squad for the second year in a row. However, Roundball was able to show our competitors that with each passing year our guy's continue to become more fundamental and continue to get a little closer to beating the old star studded VPD cast. The VPD played a nicely constructed team game and were led by the officer formally known as "Prince" a quick filipino pointguard who was able to pick apart our defence and also shut down the play of our allstar guards. In my personal opinion the VPD were something like the San Antonio Spurs.... Old and Boring....but they got the job done. So hats off to them.

All in all the allstar game was a great way to just enjoy a night of Roundball away from the regular weekly competitive nature of our games. The type of competitive nature where our players seem to always curse out their teammates whenever things are not going as planned on the court (lol). The point is Roundball  keeps it exciting on and off the court and Friday night our young men played hard and played respectful.

Thanks for representing our league well Roundball. A great night for a great group of players. Well Done.

Allstar Night

The Most Festive Game of The Holidays
  THE ROUNDBALL ALLSTAR GAME
You better believe its here again and going to be spectactular! Roundball Basketball is presenting it's fifth annual Allstar Basketball Game. The allstar game at Roundball continues to evolve, with this year being the second consecutive year the Vancouver Police Department Men's team will be playing our stars. Last year our youth team got destroyed by the Men's team and this year we hope that our slightly older men's division can put up a better fight.

In the past Roundball has had allstar games versus the celebrity street baller King Handles and his Vancity crew, however due the success of Joey Haywood's aka King Handles full-ride scholarship and departure to the Saint Mary's Basketball University out in Eastern Canada Roundball has now found a new group of  Men's stars to hold our annual games against.

Our allstar games have gone from a more street based game to a more structured and competitive game. The transistion has been made for the better, and we hope that this year Roundball can finally win an Allstar Game For Once!
